"Choosing the right roller cover for your next paint job."

 

Roller covers come in a variety of fabrics, sizes and shapes.
It is important to know which cover will give you the desired performance for your home improvement project.

Better Quality Roller Covers = Better Performance:

  • Provide smoother coverage
    • Fewer air bubbles and less lint in the coating
  • Denser fibers reduce spattering
    • Even layoff from the beginning to the end of the stroke
  • Higher paint capacity
    • Saves time
    • Last longer

Higher quality materials resist matting are more durable to
extend the life of the roller

 

Roller cover fabrics

Synthetic Fabric

  • Knitted
    • Secures individual fibers to the backing with one
      pass-through, forming a “V”
    • Possibility of some shedding
    • Use with all flat or satin paints, waterproofing, or stains
    • On medium to extra-rough surfaces
  • Woven
    • Secures individual fibers to baking with two
      pass-throughs, forming a “W”
    • Shed-resistant for lint-free finishes
    • Use with eggshells, glosss enamels, clear coatings, primers, epoxies, or other high-tack coatings.
    • On smooth to medium surfaces

Choosing the right roller cover
Nap or Pile is the length of the fabric that sticks up from the backing.

The rougher the surface, the longer the nap.

 

Nap  Surface

 

1/8-in. to 3/16-in.

Smooth surfaces, untextured plaster, wallboard, drywall, metal
3/8-in. to 1/2-in

Medium surfaces, sand finishes, lightly textured plaster or wood

3/4in. to 1-1/2-in.

Rough surfaces, brick, concrete, stucco, textured ceilings or walls.
